Customizing Nodes

Overview

This example demonstrates how node customization APIs translate into container build and startup steps. Software installation generates build commands in the Dockerfile, file installation adds configurations or programs to the image, and startup commands are written into the node’s startup script. These interfaces allow nodes to automatically initialize the required environment when they start. You can further install custom clients, traffic generators, monitoring tools, or configuration scripts on network nodes to make experiment deployment and repeated execution more consistent.

Node customization

In this example, we show how to use the node APIs to conduct customization on a node. We can conduct the following customization.

  • Install software: this creates a RUN command inside Dockerfile
  • Install files: this creates a COPY command inside Dockerfile
  • Add commands: create entries in start.sh

The result of the API is provided in the inline comments.
